The carrier on the phone wasn't the carrier on the paperwork

Posted a flatbed out of Joliet and got a confirmation back fast, all very professional. Something made me check the MC against the record before I tendered it. The contact and the email did not match what FMCSA had for that carrier, not even close. The company was real. The guy I was emailing wasn't them. Somebody was wearing their name to book freight they had no plan of delivering. I called the real outfit off their listed number and the owner had no idea it was even happening. Retendered to a carrier I actually checked out. Load was steel coils, by the way. Not the kind you wave goodbye to.
